Overview
This card design project was a chance for me to practice both visual design and interactive prototyping using Figma. My goal was to create a cohesive deck of cards while adding features like counters and card deletion. Along the way, I explored design concepts like scale, contrast, and alignment to keep the cards visually consistent. I also pushed myself to experiment with Figma’s prototyping tools to make the interactions feel smooth and natural.

The Challenge
One of the biggest challenges was keeping a consistent visual style across all the cards while still making certain cards, like face cards, stand out. I also struggled with my design process—I tend to get stuck on small visual details too early, which slowed me down. On the interactive side, I found Figma’s triggers limiting for complex actions like card deletion and counters, making it hard to create smooth, realistic animations.
The Solution
To keep the design consistent, I focused on using similar colors, shapes, and typography across all the cards. I also played with scale and contrast to make face cards stand out without breaking the overall design. When I noticed my design process was slowing me down, I switched to a modular design approach, breaking cards into reusable components. This made it easier to experiment and update designs quickly. For the interactive features, I used Figma’s smart animations and combined multiple frame transitions to simulate actions like deleting cards and updating counters.
The Result
This project taught me a lot about my design process and how to improve it. I learned that starting with rough prototypes before focusing on details helps me move faster and experiment more. Building reusable components also made it easier to iterate without losing consistency. On the interaction side, I became more comfortable using Figma’s smart animations and learned how to work around its limitations to create more complex interactions. Overall, I now feel more confident in my ability to design both visually and interactively.
